Description
Tsankawi was constructed by ancient Pueblo Indians in New Mexico. The Tsankawi inhabitants
were totally dependent upon the natural surroundings for survival. Their food, clothing, and shelter
came from “Mother Earth”.
According to Rina Swentzell, Santa Clara Pueblo writer and architectural historian:
“We are synonymous with and born of the earth, so are we made of the same stuff as our
houses….We built them, tasted them, talked with them, climbed on them, lived with them, and
watched them die…. The entire community was the house.”
The last line of her quote is probably the most poignant to us and is the basic tenant on which were
founded; Community and Culture in Every Bottle. An stirring and beautiful place that can inspire you
to do almost anything…..like maybe open a winery.
